Full description

Young, A., 2005, Transcriptions from Winkleigh Biomass Plant National Mapping Programme (NMP) project (Cartographic). SDV321540.

Transcriptions of a series of ditches correspond to the grid referenceS for PRN167017 & PRN167015.

Young, A. & Turner, S., 2005-2006, North Devon/Winkleigh Biomass Plant National Mapping Programme (NMP) project database records, PRN167015 (Interpretation). SDV358473.

Linear features are visible on aerial photos (p1) running SE-NW. They follow the alignment of extant boundaries in fields immediately to their east; all are sited within an area described as ‘Medieval enclosures based on strip fields' in Devon’s Historic Landscape Characterisation, and are likely to be field boundaries of medieval origin. The cropmark features have been digitally plotted as part of the National Mapping Programme.

Young, A. & Turner, S., 2005-2006, North Devon/Winkleigh Biomass Plant National Mapping Programme (NMP) project database records, PRN167017 (Interpretation). SDV358473.

A long linear feature is visible on aerial photos (p1) as a single ditch, with a fork at its east end. The ditch runs E-W for 230m. It is on a similar alignment to surrounding extant fields described as 'Modern Enclosures' for Devon’s Historic Landscape Characterisation. The feature has been digitally plotted as part of the National Mapping Programme.

Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2017-2018, Backlog recording of the Winkleigh National Mapping Programme Survey (Personal Comment). SDV360588.

The transcriptions included within this monument record were previously recorded by Young & Turner as two separate records; PRN167015 & PRN167015. However, it seems more likely they form part of the same feature, so have been amalgamated into one.
