A number of small allotments are visible on 1946 RAF aerial photos (p1). Their extents have been digitally plotted as part of the National Mapping Programme. Some of these allotments are marked on 1907 OS 2nd Edition 1:2500 mapping; others are marked on the maps but not visible in 1946; one is visible on aerial photos but not mapped. The extent of use of land for allotments in the 1940s may be related to the drive for home-grown food during WW2, but the origins of most of the allotment gardens in North Tawton appear to be in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
