Summary

Earthwork ditches interpreted as post-medieval to 19th century leats, or possible natural channels, are visible on aerial photographs taken in 1946 and 1971, to the southwest of Southcott, Chawleigh. The earthworks are intersected by a later barn.

Linear ditches are visible as extant earthworks to the north-west of West Hill on aerial photographs (p1-2) and were digitally plotted during the National Mapping Programme. They are considered likely to be water courses, possibly post medieval leats although a natural origin cannot be ruled out. The features are sited within an area described as C18th and C19th post-medieval enclosures in the Historic Landscape Characterisation for Devon.
