Two linear ditches lies to the south of Chawleigh Week Mill Bridge on the southern bank of the River Taw. The ditches lie on the same alignment as each other to either side of the railway, they are therefore considered likely to be one single ditched feature, predating the construction of the railway embankment. The features, which are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs (p1-2) and were digitally plotted during the National Mapping Programme, are considered likely to be a field boundary or drainage ditch of medieval or later date. The features are sited within an area described as C18th and C19th post-medieval enclosures in the Historic Landscape Characterisation for Devon.
