New Vitifer Mine operating in the 19th century with stone buildings, shafts and adits. Figure 7 shows the location of the Engine Sahft, the wheelpit, stamping floor and the three circular buddles. The buddles with diameters of 7 and 6.5 metres were used to refine the tin and were of the convex centre head type which involved the construction of a wooden convex platform on top of the central granite cone. A possible square buddle also exists and the four are connected by a stone lined and capped channel which would have carried waste material away.
