Narrow, sinuous ditches are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1948, on the northeast facing slopes at Sparkwell, Staverton. The parallel channels roughly follow the contours of the hillslope and are interpreted as the gutters of a catch meadow irrigation system. Catch meadows were popular in the 19th century but many continued in use into the mid-20th century. The catch meadow system does not appear to be active on aerial photographs of 1948, so had possibly passed out of use by this time. The earthworks are not visible on other aerial imagery made available to the survey which suggest the earthworks have been since levelled.
