Cropmarks of levelled ditches are visible on oblique aerial photographs taken in 1992, to the south of Mount Pleasant Cottage, Broadhempston. The cropmarks occupy an area of approximately 2 hectares of gentle east facing slope. They define a rectilinear enclosure to the southwest, measuring approximately 30m in length by 25m in width, from which extend linear cropmarks from the northeast and southwestern corners. A number of additional, linear cropmarks interpreted as contemporary field boundaries are visible to the north and east of the enclosure. These are typically northeast to southwest and northeast to southwest aligned and in part correspond with field boundaries shown on the 1841 Parish Tithe Map, although most of the field boundaries had evidently passed out of use by this time. Whilst the field boundaries are interpreted as being of largely medieval or post-medieval date, the origin of the enclosure, or its association with the field boundaries is largely uncertain, although a contemporary date is suggested. Two closely set and parallel ditches, spaced circa 8m apart, which extend from an un-named road to the east towards the enclosure may have additionally functioned as an access track and gives some support to the features being broadly contemporary.
