A sub-oval shaped earthwork cutting, approximately 45m in length by 40m in width, is visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017, to the south of Neilgate Corner, Staverton. Buildings of a possible former farmstead are shown in the location of the earthwork on the 1845 Parish Tithe Map, although are no longer visible, and so demolished, by the time of the First Edition Ordnance Survey 25-inch map of the later 19th century, which instead shows that the area has been planted as an orchard. The earthwork is tentatively interpreted as a sunken building platform, or disused extractive pit, within which the farm buildings were constructed during the medieval or post-medieval period. A similar pit has also been recorded 180m to the south (MDV122289).
