An irregularly shaped earthwork pit, approximately 60m in length by 50m in width, is visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017, to the south of Neilgate Corner, Staverton. Buildings of a possible former farmstead are shown in the location of the earthwork on the 1845 Parish Tithe Map, although by the time of the First Edition Ordnance Survey 25-inch map of the later 19th century only two buildings are shown and only a single building is shown on the Second Edition Ordnance Survey 25-inch map. The earthwork is tentatively interpreted as a sunken building platform, or disused extractive pit, within which the farm buildings were constructed during the medieval or post-medieval period. A similar pit has also been recorded 180m to the north (MDV122284).
