Curvilinear earthwork banks, up to 14m in width are visible on aerial photographs taken in 1965 and on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017, at Whistley Hill Cross, Ashburton. The northeast to southwest aligned earthworks broadly respect the historic field pattern depicted in this location on the 1840 Parish Tithe Map and characterised as medieval enclosures based on strip fields, although they do not correspond with any linear features on this map, or on subsequent available historic maps. They are interpreted as a forming a possible single medieval field boundary which has been truncated by an un-named road and having passed out of use by the mid-19th century.
