A possible curvilinear ditch is visible as a cropmark west of Whitcombe, on aerial photographs of 1984. Up to circa 4m wide, the curvilinear cropmark encloses a D-shaped area circa 36m wide and at least 66m long, the long axis crossing the contours of the east-facing slope. The cropmark might be evidence of a ditched enclosure of later-prehistoric to Roman date; two rectilinear enclosures are visible as cropmarks circa 40m to the south.
Alternatively, the cropmarks might be non-archaeological in origin, possibly caused by natural drainage. Further work is required to characterise this feature.
