Cropmarks of levelled ditches, circa 4m in width, are visible on aerial photographs taken in 1946, on gentle southeast facing slope, to the south of Orley House, Ipplepen. The dark cropmarks form a partial rectilinear enclosure which measures circa 75m square, with angular corners visible to the northwest and southeast, less so to the northeast. The southwestern corner was not perceptible. The enclosure is bisected by a northeast to southwest aligned field boundary, with cropmarks within the southern land parcel less well-defined than those within the adjacent land parcel to the north. The form and character of this enclosure would suggest a prehistoric or Romano-British date. The cropmarks are not visible on other available aerial imagery.
