Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2018-2019, The South Devon Coast to Dartmoor Aerial Investigation and Mapping Survey. Area 1, Haldon Ridge to Dart Valley (AI&M) (Interpretation). SDV361305.

Earthwork pits are visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017, off Blackstone Road, Ipplepen. The southern of the two earthworks is irregularly shaped and measures circa 60m in length by 30m in width, with that to the north oval in shape and measuring circa 48m in length by 30m in width. The earthworks correspond with land parcels 955 and 956, respectively, on the mid-19th century Parish Tithe Map and both are recorded as ‘Waste’ on the accompanying Tithe Apportionment. They also correspond with pit features on the Ordnance Survey 25-inch First Edition Map. The earthworks are therefore interpreted as post-medieval or 19th century extractive pits which had passed out of use by the mid to late 19th century.

Cockcroft, T., 2022, Land at Blackstone Cross, Ipplepen, Devon: Geophysical Survey Report (Report - Geophysical Survey). SDV365670.

A geophysical survey was undertaken in July 2022 on land at Blackstone Cross, Ipplepen which has been outlined for development. The site contains the remains of two probable post medieval stone quarries and a small area of magnetic disturbance and negative responses in Area 1 corresponds with one of these.
