Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2018-2019, The South Devon Coast to Dartmoor Aerial Investigation and Mapping Survey. Area 1, Haldon Ridge to Dart Valley (Interpretation). SDV361305.

Irregularly shaped pits, which range in length from 8-190m, are visible as earthworks on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017, on a limestone plateau within Pulsfordhill Wood, southwest of Tornewton, Denbury and Torbryan. The visible earthworks occupy an area of approximately 6.5 hectares and are only visible on lidar-derived images owing to the dense tree cover of Pulsfordhill Wood. The quality of lidar imagery in this location is, however, variable and consequently the actual extent of these earthworks is uncertain, particularly to the west. The monument polygon for this record has been enlarged to reflect this uncertainty. The earthworks do not correspond with any pit features shown in this location on the available historic maps, although are located in close proximity to earthworks labelled as 'Quarry' (MDV48073) and 'Pulsford Quarry (disused)' (MDV49909) which are depicted on the Ordnance Survey First Edition Map of the late 19th century and which are likely associated. Two limekilns (MDV80318 & MDV13765) are also recorded in the area. They are therefore interpreted as post-medieval or 19th century quarries for possible limestone extraction which had passed out of use by the late 19th century.
