Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2018-2019, The South Devon Coast to Dartmoor Aerial Investigation and Mapping Survey. Area 1, Haldon Ridge to Dart Valley (AI&M) (Interpretation). SDV361305.
Curvilinear banks circa 7m to 11m wide are visible on images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017 as subtle earthworks on a south-facing slope to the north of Higher Ashton, Ashton. The visible earthworks do not correspond with any boundaries depicted on the Tithe Map for Ashton or the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25inch map and are not in keeping with the character of the surrounding field pattern, which has been characterised as post-medieval in origin. It is possible that the earthworks are geological in origin, but more likely that they are evidence of former field boundaries, potentially of medieval date.
