The pit is not depicted as an earthwork.

A pit is visible as an earthwork.

A roughly oval pit is visible on images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017 as an earthwork approximately 20m by 10m in size, under improved pasture on a south-east facing combe slope to the south-east of Penn Farm, Ashton.
The pit is not depicted on the 19th century maps available to the survey. It is probably the remains of a quarry or extractive pit of post-medieval to early 19th century date.
