Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2018-2019, The South Devon Coast to Dartmoor Aerial Investigation and Mapping Survey. Area 1, Haldon Ridge to Dart Valley (AI&M) (Interpretation). SDV361305.
Linear earthwork banks and ditches, circa 6m and 11m in width, respectively, are visible on aerial photographs taken in 1986 and digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017, west of Wrenwell Cross, Denbury and Torbryan. The earthwork banks and ditches which flank one another are northeast to southwest and northwest to southeast aligned and partly define rectilinear enclosures. They are in keeping with the historic field pattern depicted in this location on the mid-19th century Parish Tithe Map which is characterised as medieval enclosures based on strip fields. With the exception of the southwestern most ditch, the earthworks do not correspond with any linear features shown on this map, or on subsequent available historic maps. They are therefore interpreted as relict field boundaries of medieval or post-medieval date which had largely passed out of use by the mid-19th century.
