Linear earthwork banks, circa 4.5m in width, are visible on aerial photographs taken in 1986 and on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017, at Halwell Farm, Denbury and Torbryan. The parallel northeast to southwest aligned earthworks are in keeping with the historic field pattern depicted in this location on the mid-19th century Parish Tithe Map which is characterised as post-medieval Barton fields, although do not correspond with any linear features on this map, or on subsequent available historic maps. They are interpreted as possible relict field boundaries of potential medieval, or post-medieval, date which had passed out of use by the mid-19th century. Their alignment on the southeast facing combe slopes and their proximity to a watercourse may also, however, suggest they are associated with a possible former 19th century catch meadow system.
