Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2018-2019, The South Devon Coast to Dartmoor Aerial Investigation and Mapping Survey. Area 1, Haldon Ridge to Dart Valley (Interpretation). SDV361305.

An oval shallow pit or hollow circa 30 by 24m in size is visible on aerial photographs of the 1940s and images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017 as an earthwork under pasture on the south-facing combe slopes to the south-east of Farley, Chudleigh. A low mound, probably a spoil heap, defines the south edge of the pit.
The earthwork does not correspond with any feature depicted on the 19th-century maps available to the survey, but the Tithe Apportionment records the name of this field as Plot 479, Kiln Close. This might support an interpretation of the earthwork as the site of a lime kiln of early 19th-century date. It may be associated with a possible extractive pit to the south-west.
