NERC, 2013, LiDAR DTM data (1m resolution) Tellus: South Devon to Dartmoor, LIDAR ST8069 Tellus DTM 01-JUL-2013 to 31-AUG-2013 (Cartographic). SDV361514.

Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2016-2018, The Blackdown Hills AONB and East Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV359463.

Parallel earthwork ridges, circa 4.5m wide, are visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2013, at Higher Wotton, Denbury and Torbryan. The visible banks are closely spaced and are aligned parallel to the contours of the southeast facing combe slope, occupying an area of approximately 0.17 hectares. The earthworks are located within land parcel 65 on the Parish Tithe Map which is recorded as ‘Higher Orchard’ on the Tithe Apportionment. An orchard is also shown in this location on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25-inch map of the late 19th century. The earthworks are therefore interpreted as possible tree planting banks for a post-medieval or 19th century orchard, the fruit trees being established on the banks for increased soil depth and improved drainage. The orchard trees are not visible on aerial photographs taken in 1946 and so had passed out of use by this time.
