Three narrow and curvilinear earthwork hollows are visible as earthworks up to circa 600m long and between 2 to 10m wide, crossing the south-west facing slopes to the north-west of Thorne Cross Farm, Chudleigh. The southernmost earthwork corresponds with a footpath depicted on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25inch map of circa 1880. It is therefore likely that the remaining two hollows are also evidence of such routes. The field in which the earthworks are visible is listed as heath on the Tithe Apportionment for Chudleigh and it is probable that the footpaths predate the enclosure of the heath.
Much of the former heathland has been improved on images derived from aerial photographs of 2016 and it is probable that most of the earthworks have been levelled, although some fragments may survive to the west of Thorne Cross Farm in a small area of remaining heathland vegetation.
