Full description
Harrison, D., 2017, Houghton Barton, Newton Abbot, Devon: Geophysical Survey (Report - Geophysical Survey). SDV361681.
Geophysical (magnetometer) survey undertaken covering approximately 52 hectares, on land at Houghton Barton, north-west of Newton Abbot, to inform an Archaeological and Heritage Assessment which will be submitted with an outline planning application for a residential-led mixed-use development.
A discrete cluster of anomalies have been recorded as being of possible archaeological potential. This cluster is located 65 metres to the west of the square enclosure (MDV54088), and comprises a number of high magnitude anomalies, some linear and rectilinear in form as well as some discrete anomalies. Although no coherent pattern can be discerned which might allow a more confident interpretation to be ascribed it is considered possible that the anomalies are caused by soil-filled ditches and perhaps may be associated with the square enclosure.
