Full description

Small cottage is depicted on the late 19th century historic map.

Just north of the lock (MDV106271) was a small basin with a cottage adjoining to the north-east, housing a man who looked after both. The cottage was built around c.1811, the basin following in 1813, constructed into one of a pair of the large borrow pits, excavated at either end of the Lumburn Aqueduct, the most significant civil engineering structure on the Tavistock Canal, other than the Morwelldown Tunnel.
