Parallel earthwork ridges, circa 5m wide, are visible on aerial photographs taken in 1983 and 1986, off Ogwell Road, Ogwell. The visible banks are closely spaced and are aligned across the contours of the southerly facing slope, occupying an area of approximately 0.10 hectares. The earthworks correspond with land parcel 40 on the mid-19th century Parish Tithe Map and recorded as ‘Higher Orchard’ on the accompanying Tithe Apportionment. This supports the interpretation the earthworks are possible 19th century tree planting banks of an orchard, the fruit trees being established on the earthworks for increased soil depth and improved drainage. The orchard has been almost completely cleared of fruit trees by 1946 and the earthworks likely levelled when the area was developed into residential housing by 2006-07.
