Faint linear cropmarks which have possibly formed over two levelled ditches, circa 6m wide, are visible on digital images derived from aerial photographs taken in 2010, at Middle Copse, Bickington. The northeast to southwest and northwest to southeast aligned cropmarks are broadly in keeping with the historic field pattern depicted in this location on the mid-19th century Parish Tithe Map which is characterised as medieval enclosures based on strip fields, although they do not correspond with any linear features on this map, or on subsequent available historic maps. They are therefore interpreted as relict field boundaries of medieval or post-medieval date which had passed out of use by the mid-19th century.
