Sub-circular and sub-oval shaped pits, between 6m to 24m in length are visible as earthworks on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017, within a copse to the west of Lower Holbeam Farm, Ogwell. The visible earthworks do not correspond with any pit features depicted in this location on the available late 19th and early 20th century mapping which is shown as an area of woodland. The earthworks are interpreted as extractive pits of post-medieval or 19th century date which had likely passed out of use by the mid-to late 19th century when the area was given over to woodland. The earthworks are not visible on other available aerial imagery owing to dense tree cover.
