Parallel earthwork ridges, circa 6m wide, are visible on aerial imagery taken from 1949 onwards, to the east of Morley, Newton Abbot. The visible banks are closely spaced and are aligned across the contours of the south facing combe slope, occupying an area of approximately 0.66 hectares. The banks coincide with land parcel 665 on the mid-19th century Parish Tithe Map and recorded as ‘Mint Park Orchard’ on the accompanying Tithe Apportionment and an orchard is shown in this location on the late 19th century Ordnance Survey First Edition 25-inch map. They are interpreted as possible post-medieval or 19th century tree planting banks for an orchard, the fruit trees being established on the earthworks for increased soil depth and improved drainage. The orchard is partly covered in fruit trees on aerial photographs taken in 1949, although these have been completely cleared by 1983. The earthwork banks remain visible on digital images derived from aerial photographs taken in 2016.
