A group of six sub-oval and irregularly shaped pits, ranging from 35m to 55m in length, are visible as earthworks on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017, within Broadridge Wood, Newton Abbot. The western-most earthwork corresponds with a ‘Quarry’ shown and labelled in this location on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25-inch of the late 19th century, and earthworks of a second ‘Quarry’ are shown to the south. This supports the interpretation the earthworks represent evidence of post-medieval or 19th century quarrying for possible limestone extraction, which had likely passed out of use by the later 19th century. The earthworks are not visible on other available aerial imagery owing to thick tree cover of Broadridge Wood.
