Narrow curvilinear ditches less than 2m wide are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken from 1946 onwards, at Chipley Manor, Bickington. The visible earthworks do not correspond with any curvilinear features depicted on the available mid-19th to early 20th century historical mapping. The channels roughly follow the contours of the southeast facing combe slopes and occupy an area of approximately 1.61 hectares. They are interpreted as the gutters of a catch meadow irrigation system of likely 19th century date which had likely passed out of use by the early to mid-20th century. The ditches are not clearly visible on aerial imagery after 1969 and have possibly since been levelled.
