Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2018-2019, The South Devon Coast to Dartmoor Aerial Investigation and Mapping Survey. Area 1, Haldon Ridge to Dart Valley (Interpretation). SDV361305.

Parallel earthwork ridges, circa 5m wide, are visible on aerial photographs taken from 1946 onwards and digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017, to the north of South Knighton, Ilsington. The visible banks are closely spaced and are aligned across the contours of the southeast-facing combe slope, occupying an area of approximately 0.78 hectares. The banks coincide with two adjacent orchards depicted on the mid-19th century Parish Tithe Map, although by the time of the Ordnance Survey First Edition map of the late 19th century, the northern of the two orchards is no longer visible and had been evidently. The remaining orchard to the south has been completely cleared by 1999. The earthworks are interpreted as possible post-medieval or 19th century tree planting banks for these two former orchards, the fruit trees being established on the earthworks for increased soil depth and improved drainage
