Linear banks, circa 6m wide, are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1986 and digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017, at Chipley, Bickington. The three parallel northeast to southwest aligned earthworks correspond with land parcel 363 on the mid-19th century Parish Tithe Map which is recorded on the accompanying Tithe Apportionment as ‘Orchard’. They do not correspond with any linear features on this map, or on subsequent available historic maps and are interpreted as possible relict field boundaries of medieval or the remains of post-medieval date or 19th century tree planting banks of a former orchard.
