Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2018-2019, The South Devon Coast to Dartmoor Aerial Investigation and Mapping Survey. Area 1, Haldon Ridge to Dart Valley (AI&M) (Interpretation). SDV361305.

Earthworks of linear and curvilinear banks, circa 3m wide, are visible on aerial photographs taken in 1946, at Houghton, Newton Abbot. The earthworks form part of a single east to west aligned feature which is double banked and truncated by a gutter of a 19th century catch meadow system at its eastern extent. The earthworks are in keeping with the historic field pattern depicted in this location on the mid-19th century Parish Tithe Map characterised as medieval enclosures based on strip fields, although they do not correspond with any linear features on this map, or on later available historic maps. They are interpreted as a possible relict field boundary of medieval or post-medieval date which had passed out of use by the mid-19th century. The earthworks are not visible on recent available aerial imagery and have likely been levelled.
