A linear ditch partly flanked by a bank, both circa 2.5m wide, are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken from 1946 onwards and on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017, to the south of Knighton Cross, Ilsington. The northwest to southeast aligned earthworks do not correspond with any features in this location on the mid-19th century Parish Tithe Map, or on later available historic maps, although they are closely parallel to an historic and extant field boundary. The character of the earthworks supports the interpretation they represent evidence of a post-medieval of 19th century artificial water channel which had likely passed out of use by the mid-to later 19th century.
