Sub-oval shaped pits, between 14m to 36m in length, are visible as earthworks on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017, to the southwest of Singmore Farm, Newton Abbot. The visible earthworks do not correspond with any pit features depicted in this location on the available 19th century mapping, although earthworks labelled as ‘Old Quarries’, Old Quarry’ and ‘Quarry’ are shown within the surrounding area on the Ordnance Survey First Edition map of the late 19th century. The earthworks are therefore interpreted as post-medieval or early 19th century quarries which had likely passed out of use by the mid-late 19th century.
