Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2018-2019, The South Devon Coast to Dartmoor Aerial Investigation and Mapping Survey. Area 1, Haldon Ridge to Dart Valley (AI&M) (Interpretation). SDV361305.

Linear and curvilinear earthwork banks flanked by ditches, which are variously aligned and measure between 3m to 9m wide, are visible on aerial photographs taken in 1964 and digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017, at Higher Staplehill, Newton Abbot. Most of the earthworks do not correspond with any linear or curvilinear features shown in this location on the mid-19th century Parish Tithe Map, or on later available historic maps, but are broadly in keeping with the historic field pattern depicted in this location and characterised as post-medieval enclosures. The mostly curvilinear form of the earthworks supports the interpretation they represent relict field boundaries of potential medieval date which had mostly passed out of use by the mid-19th century.
