Narrow curvilinear ditches are visible as earthworks on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017, to the east of Higher Staplehill, Newton Abbot. The visible earthwork channels roughly follow the contours of the southeast and north facing combe slopes and occupy an area of circa 2.65 hectares. The earthworks to the south are particularly fragmented where they intersect with modern drainage and natural channels. They are interpreted as the possible gutters of a 19th century catch meadow irrigation system which had possibly passed out of use by the mid-20th century. The earthworks are not clearly visible on other available aerial imagery.
