Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2018-2019, The South Devon Coast to Dartmoor Aerial Investigation and Mapping Survey. Area 1, Haldon Ridge to Dart Valley (Interpretation). SDV361305.

Parallel earthwork ridges were visible under moderate tree cover on aerial photographs of 1946, over circa 0.5 hectares of the south-east facing slopes north-west of Lyneham Cross, Hennock. The closely spaced banks are on average 5 metres wide and are aligned obliquely cross-contour. They are interpreted as banks made to enhance drainage and provide additional depth of soil within an orchard.
The plot in which the banks are visible is depicted as an orchard on the Tithe Map for Hennock (Plot 311, Lyman Orchard) and the Ordnance Survey 25-inch First Edition map. The banks were therefore probably created prior to circa 1840. The plot had been largely cleared of trees and the banks remained visible as earthworks on images derived from aerial photographs of 2015.
