Linear banks and ditches defining rectilinear enclosures 10 to 15m wide and 25 to 90m long, are visible on aerial photographs of 1946 and images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017, as earthworks on the gentle south west facing slopes and abutting the road through Waddon, Chudleigh.
The visible earthworks do not correspond with any boundaries depicted on the 19th century maps available to the survey but are in keeping with the surrounding field pattern. They are interpreted as evidence of possible strip fields and rectilinear enclosures, possible settlement evidence of probable medieval origin, that were cleared prior to circa 1840.
Additional former field boundaries of probable medieval date are visible as earthworks to the south east, possible supporting the interpretation of settlement desertion or contraction.
