Linear banks and ditches are visible as earthworks and cropmarks on aerial imagery taken from 1946 onwards and on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017, within Stover Park, Teigngrace. The visible cropmarks and earthworks form three sides of a looped enclosure, with sharp corners to both the northeast and southeast. They comprise linear sections of banks, circa 3m wide, which are flanked on both sides by narrow ditches, circa 1m wide. Additional narrow banks are also intermittingly visible along the outside edge of these flanking ditches. Both terminal ends of the main central bank flare outwards where they intersect with, and so post-date, an access track for Stover House which is first shown in this location on the Ordnance Survey 4th Edition 25-inch map of the 1930’s. The earthworks and cropmarks are therefore interpreted as the remains of a possible early to mid-20th century trackway which was constructed from possible compacted material and defined by narrow drainage channels and outer banks possibly derived from ditch up-cast material to each side. The absence of this trackway on later available maps and its apparent abandonment on aerial photographs taken in 1946 confirm its use was relatively short-lived or was abandoned prior to its completion. It possibly forms part of an ornamental parkland trackway of Stover Park (MDV56726), or else a temporary military trackway associated with an American Army camp which was located here during the Second World War (MDV111667), cropmarks and earthworks associated with which have been recorded in the immediate vicinity.
