A rectilinear pit or hollow is visible.

A rectangular embanked hollow circa 48m by 30m in size is visible as an earthwork on the east-facing slopes to the west of Palace Mill, Chudleigh.
The earthwork is situated within a shallow combe overlooking Palace Mill, along which ponds and drains are depicted on 19th and early 20th century maps. It is possible that the earthwork was made to hold a water supply to power Palace Mill at times when the flow of the Kate Brook may not have been sufficient.
The earthwork is not depicted on the 19th century maps available to the survey but it’s location may be respected by a dogleg in an adjacent field boundary of probable post-medieval date.
It is interpreted as a possible mill pond of post-medieval to 19th century date that had passed out of use by circa 1840.
The earthwork was probably been levelled during housing development in this area in the second half of the 20th century.
