Parallel earthwork ridges circa 6m wide were visible on aerial photographs of 1946 as earthwork banks on the north-west facing slopes east of Lower Water, Ugbrooke Park, Chudleigh. The banks are interpreted as earthworks made to enhance drainage and might post-date the 18th century creation of the lake. Alternatively, they resemble banks characteristically made to enhance drainage and provide additional depth of soil within an orchard and might therefore be evidence of a former orchard predating the creation of Lower Water in Ugbrooke Park. This might be supported by the presence of possible former field boundaries immediately to the south and east.
The banks are clearly visible as slight earthworks on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017.
