Full description

A shallow pit is visible as an earthwork at circa SX87417754.

Two roughly oval pits up to circa 25m across are visible on aerial photographs1946 and digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017 as earthworks on north-west facing slope, circa 550m south-west of Ugbrooke House, Chudleigh. The pits are interpreted as possible limestone quarries of medieval to post-medieval date. The northernmost earthwork remains obscured by tree cover on digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2015 but is clearly visible as a pit surrounded by possible upcast material on the lidar derived images.
