An irregularly shape pit up to circa 50m across is visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017 as an earthwork on the east facing slopes north-east of Olchard, Ideford.
The visible earthworks do not correspond with any pit depicted on the 19th century maps available to the survey; it corresponds with a dashed area bisected by a field boundary on the Tithe Map for Ideford and a small copse on the OS 1880s First Edition 25inch map.
The pit is interpreted as a possible limestone quarry of post-medieval to early 19th century date, that was turned over to woodland by the mid-19th century.
The earthworks remain obscured by tree cover on digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2015
