Curvilinear ditches are visible as earthworks on the north-west facing slopes to the south of Lindridge Park, Bishopsteignton, on aerial photographs of 1946. The upper earthworks are orientated on extant drains to the east and correspond in part with a water channel depicted on the 1930s Ordnance Survey 4th edition 25inch map. The channel is not depicted on the First Edition map and partly depicted on the Second edition map. It is probable that the drain was constructed in stages from the late 19th to early 20th century.
The A-edition Imperial edition map of 1953-1969 labels upper the channel as a drain. Although the curvilinear nature of the channel reflects the topography of the slopes, it is possible it also indicates an ornamental role, an interpretation perhaps supported by the channel’s alignment on tree clumps. The earthworks have been levelled and are visible as cropmarks by 2010.
