In 1883 2 pewter flagons were found on the beach at Goodrington sands by a Mr Pigeon. One was given to Torquay Museum. [1]
In 1979 a third pewter flagon was found by a metal detectorist in a layer of sand below 30cm of peat itself below the surface sand. {2]
The Torquay Museum flagon was studied by Aileen (Lady) Fox in the early 1970s and found to be 90% tin; it was dated to the 4th century AD and considered to be of SW provenance. [3]
