Dairy Hill and Collaton Road, with Upper Cockington Lane [SX86NE/167], appear to have been part of one continuous road system forming part of a highway from the coast and Cockington village to Teignbridge and beyond. Dairy Hill extends north west from its junction with Marldon Road/Shiphay Avenue at NGR SX8939 6533 to its junction with Shiphay Lane at SX8934 6547. The junction forms a pronounced kink and re-entrant east of the former Shiphay Farm (now the Devon Dumpling Public House) before resuming in a northwest direction along Collaton Road to Scott's Bridge at SX8898 6628. The north-west arm bridges Shiphay Brook (not now visible). This topograhical feature has determined the road alignment to this day (2001).
The roads define the manorial demesne from the tenant holdings within the manor: all land south of Marldon Road, East of Dairy Hill and South of Shiphay Lane were part of the manorial demesne given by William Brewer to Torre Abbey [qv SX86NE/23].
