The boundary between 48 & 50 Shiphay Lane is a short section of a medieval boundary bank. It is a remnant of a continuation of the Great Bank which now survives only in part south of Marldon Road (SX86NE/169). The section here was ran in an easterly direction from the southern end of Dairy Hill and met the western side of Shiphay Lane almost opposite the present Shiphay Park Road. It measures some 6m/20 feet across its base. The bank formed the southern boundary of a field named Halwell, said to mean Holy Well and within the demesne of the manor.
