Limestone quarries at Lummaton are first documented in 1715 (the reference is a DRO one, but no class number/reference is given in the old DCC SMR). The source is to 'a limequarry upon Lumadoun' the quarries are also recorded on the 1841 tithe map. The quarry remained in use throughout the 19th century, one of those that serviced the urban expansion of Torbay .
