Aylmer is a detached house of the early nineteenth century with solid rendered walls. This villa was built for a daughter of the Gillard family in the early nineteenth century. It has a pretty stucco front with concave-headed windows and a decorative trellis veranda. The centre block is of three bays and two-storeys with a hipped slate roof. The two wings were originally single-storey but a later first floor was then added. The trellised wood porch with a swept roof was rebuilt in 1988. The building is a particularly fine example of its type and the best of several built in Brixham for the Gillard family. [1]
