Torbay HER record (SMR record). SDV361984.

A milestone is indicated on the Ordnance Survey County Series First Edition 1:2500 surveyed 1862, contained on a Torbay Council HBSMR GIS Layer; also on the 1;10560 (6 inch) map of 1933 though not shown on the Ordnance Survey 6 inch map of 1972.[1][2]

In 2000 the milestone was observed built into the boundary wall of 69, Totnes Road. It is of grey ?sandstone with a rounded head and is 41cm high and 31cm wide. Historically it appears to have had a plate fixed to its face (now gone) as there are two fixing points either side of the word "from". The stone is inscribed "from Newton 6" in lettering 5cm high.[3][4]
The 1862 records the milestone reading "Exeter 25; Newton 9; Torquay 3; Paignton 1/2; Brixham 5 1/4; Dartmouth 7 1/2; Totness [sic] 5 1/2; Teignmouth 10 3/4"
